Film Analysis


The Visitor (2007)

Director: Tom McCarthy.

Richard Jenkins - Haaz Sleiman - Danai Gurira - Hiam Abbass.

This film talks about a professor who is teaching in a university. His name is Walter Vale (Richard Jenkins). Although he is a professor, he is very interested in classical music. One day, he came back to his house in New York, but he realized that there was a couple that was living in his house. He did not know the reason why they were in his house. Being a person who had a kind heart, he let them live in his house for a few days until they can find a apartment to move out. The couple, whose name are Tarek (Haaz Sleiman) and Zainab (Danai Gurira), was a Syria man, and Senegal woman. Tarek was a drummer, and knowing that Walter was quite interested in classical music, and wanted to play drum. He taught Walter how to play, and they became friends. Their relationship was growing up day by day. But one day, Tarek was arrested because he was illegal, he was not American citizen. His girl friend is, too. But luckily, she was not arrested. Walter tried his best to help her son get out of the prison. Tarek's mother Mouna (Hiam Abbass) came to see her, and she was touched by the behaviour of Walter to her son. At last, Tarek was still deported to Syria.
